Members Information

As a new member, you will want to know all of the important details - dive in and get all of the info you need.

Welcome to Pilot Gig Rowing!

Now that you are a member, you will be responsible for managing your rows - this means signing up for the rows you can attend and ‘declining’ should your plans change and you’re unable to row. In order to manage this, the club uses Teamer.

There are two ways to work with Teamer. There is the Teamer App, and there’s the web login Teamer.net. The App is good if you're on the go and enjoy navigating on your mobile; however, you will find that the web login gives you more information on rows, access to documents, and long-range calendar views. https://teamer.net/teams/111277253-bermuda-pilot-gig-club/events

With Teamer, you are able to check what rows are happening, when, where and sign up to reserve your seat anytime. Once you have submitted your membership form with payment, your location captain will add you to our Team.

Join the BPGC "Team" on Teamer!

In order to get started, you need to accept the Teamer email invite or else you won’t get any invites to rows. On Teamer, you can edit your profile, and add phone numbers and a photo. You’ll be able to check out all the other members in the MEMBERS area and will have access to their information should you want to contact them. It is recommended that you do this via the website versus the app.

You are able to elect to receive notifications on your Teamer App, and/or via email, whenever there is a new row posted or messages on the TeamTalk message board. If receiving email invites, you can accept rows directly in your email but please do not decline row invites you are unable to make. If you find that there are too many emails, you can opt out of receiving them; however, please note that you will not receive row invites, general messages, or row cancellations - you must remember to log in regularly to see what's happening.

BPGC has several locations around the island, and each location posts rows on Teamer. There is no set protocol for how each location posts, some show the location showing first and try to include the day, time, and focus of the row within the limit of 18 characters!

  • EEMYC  - East End Mini Yacht Club, St. George’s
  • SPBC  - Spanish Point Boat Club, Pembroke
  • HMLT - Hamilton (located on the floating dock in front of BF&M on Pitts Bay Road - access through the gate on the east side of the building, next to Barr’s Bay Park)
  • BOAZ - Boaz Island, Sandys (east of the Rubis Service Station across from Woody’s)

You will be able to join ANY row to which you get invited. Some rows are restricted to specific skill levels, ages, focused training, etc - Teamer definitely increases your feeling of FOMO by saying you’re not invited to these rows; please don’t take offence and speak to your location captain if you are interested in joining a specific row. Another important note - pay special attention to which location you are signing up for! St. George’s and Boaz Island are at opposite ends of the island and there will be people waiting for you!

Once you start receiving invites to rows, you are likely to get a lot you’re not able to attend. There is no need to decline these row invites - please only use the decline button when you need to change your status on rows you accepted that you are no longer able to make. This allows your cox and fellow rowers to check the row signup.

Please give ample notice to your cox and fellow rowers if you are unable to row. Always decline your seat on Teamer, message the cox or location captain if it is within 24 hours of the row, and try to find a substitute rower if no one is waiting for a seat.

If a row needs to be cancelled, a Teamer notification will be sent advising you of this. Cancellations can occur due to insufficient rowers or bad weather. If you see that the date & time of your row is coming close, keep an eye on it, and if you notice that there are not enough rowers, keep watching your email inbox for possible cancellation or update from your cox.

Rowing Etiquette 101

Our club is managed on a voluntary basis for our members to enjoy, and it is important for all of our rowers to show up on time to assist with dressing and undressing the gigs. If we all work together, the task is done quickly, and our gear is well cared for. We also ask that everyone be respectful of their fellow rowers - both in word and action, including respecting that others have committed their personal time to enjoy a row.

As a reminder to all BPGC Rowers:

Row seats are reserved on a first come basis; if you have accepted a seat and then discover you can’t make it, please notify us as soon as possible so that others waiting can join and our coxes can determine if there is a sufficient crew for the row. N.B. If you cancel within 24 hours of the row departure time, please make contact with the coxswain after declining your seat on Teamer. Try to notify and find a replacement rower by posting in the WhatsApp chats setup by each rowing location.

If you are 7th to sign up, please keep an eye on cancellations as you may be needed to row.

The goal is that our members can row as often as they can, have fun and improve our overall fitness together.

Want to introduce someone to rowing?

If you have a friend or family member who would like to try rowing, speak to your location reps and/or coxs to coordinate a "newbie" seat either on a row with you or independently.

New rowers are allowed up to 3 trial rows; however, repeat guests will be asked to consider membership. We offer special 3-month memberships for visiting rowers as well.

It is helpful to provide new rowers with our Waiver From in advance so they can read it and sign it before their first row.

Please remind new rowers of our Rowing Etiquette in advance of their row.
